Taking it all in...

So I have been off work these past couple of days and I have been taking in a lot of information concerning being a freelance designer and things of that nature. The new computer setup that I have allows me to follow different tutorials and work in Photoshop with switching back and forth....so that speeds up the learning process greatly. Followed a tutorial and created a image of a type of school desk that has a "polaroid" along with a sheet of notebook paper with writing on it. I think that it would be great to use if I needed a design for a local school promoting a function or something of that nature. I will post it up later on. So now I am at my real job, but...it is slow so I have extra time to focus on learning more about Photoshop. going to be creating a poster type image celebrating the Tennessee Titans AFC South championship this year...so look forward to that. I hope that you all have a Happy New Year!

The Ultimate Hurdler creation...

Sorry for the long delay....I have been setting up and arranging new equipment so I can increase my productivity at the Command Center....ended up getting another flat screen monitor and another P4 tower for better speed. Now I am using this program called Synergy to link both of my computers together and allow them to use one mouse and one keyboard....pretty freakin' sweet if you ask me. Google "Synergy" and it will be the first post....check it out if you got too many keyboards.

So, I know you are looking at the title and are like WTF??? Well, here is the backstory....David and Joel are 110 hurdlers who train together and live together. Now they have thier battles in practice but lately, David has been getting the best of Joel...so much where he has started calling hisself...Anderson Silva of the UFC sport...for his tenacity and tap out ability. That got me to thinking about making a poster to commemorate this...so I Googled "Ultimate Fighter" under images and this came up

So after gathering material and photos of David and Joel, I conjured up a picture that closely resembled the one above. I used layer masks and different layer effects for the text in the printer. The font I used for the The Ultimate Fighter part was called "Sofachrome"...if you were wondering. This was the end result....

I was quite pleased with the outcome but, there are some things I could have done better. I really dont like the text effects that I placed on some of the text areas. But I am satisfied with it...only gonna get better over time... Let me know what you think! Check out a larger view of the picture at www.davidoliverhurdles.blogspot.com

What's next?

So after all of the hub bub with the start of the new blog...I didnt mention what I will working on. The answer to that is pretty much....anything. I will try my best to create what the customer is looking for when asked to. The thing about graphic design is that it is so broad and expansive...that not one company could create every single idea...some people like things done a certain way, other people, the other way. I will never limit myself to just websites or logos...I mean I am going to do it all..if I can. That means if a church comes up and asks for a program to be printed out, I am going to charge them a fair price and do the best job I can based on what they request. Just that simple....becasue I dont see this replacing my current job any time soon...but who knows. The answer is yes, if you post a request on here...I will contact you and try to do the same for you...so let the requests roll in!!! So....here goes nothing!

Welcome!

First of all wanted to say welcome to the first official post of Two Edge Designs's blog. The reason for this blog is two fold in a way. The first way is so that I can have a medium to show my work until and all of the behind the scenes work that went into it. Second, it helps to have a blog to so that when I look back, I can see all the work that I have done and how I have progressed or (regressed...hopefully, not) in a couple of weeks, months and years. This blog will try and give the reader an inside look at a freelancer and a rookie try and start to do something postive. I figure it will be rough at the beginning....but like the saying goes...anything worth having or doing is worth working for....or something along those lines. You will be able to see all of the different projects that I attempt and how I got to the final product...and then you will be able to see the finished product on either here or on the website (coming in early Jan. 2009) in the portfolio. Hopefully, I will hit the ground running but we will see...
